Lockheed Pinellas Completes Energy Use Reduction Project
Pinellas Completes Energy Use Reduction Project
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Division Newletter
In Pinellas we recently completed a facility wide energy reduction project which will save approximately $100K annually in energy costs and remove approximately 388,125 pounds of CO2 annually. In 2010 we partnered with a local Tampa company “Green Energy Services” that specializes in energy cost reduction and power management. With their help, the Pinellas productions team witnessed the changes we made to the shop floor lights. We replaced the 433 high energy metal halide lights on the shop floor to the energy efficient hi-bay fluorescent lights, which not only give us 30% more light, but reduces the energy use for lighting by 50%.
The second phase of the project may not have been as visible to the production team, but it is just as exciting to us from an operations standpoint. We replaced our antiquated and un-reliable Building Automation System which controlled the lights and AC units, with an innovative web-based monitoring and management system. It was a “whole facility” approach to energy cost reduction by installing this state-of-the-art system. Pinellas now has the ability to monitor, schedule, and control critical building functions such as energy usage, HVAC, Air Compressors and Lights in real time, in addition to many of the other facilities process related systems.
The project was done to support our companies “Go Green” energy program to reduce our carbon footprint, to reduce the negative impact we have on the environment and to bring Pinellas into the 21st century for controlling our building systems. In Pinellas we are very committed to “Going Green” and this project is just one example of many we have taken over the last few years here in Pinellas to prove our commitment.
